Auto-Cleaned Channel automatically deletes messages older than the age you set in the channels you pick on the dashboard. The bot does this quietly: it posts nothing in the channel, it only removes old messages.
In the window above, three channels are being cleaned: #bot-commands after 1 hour, #caps-and-memes after 24 hours, #media after 7 days. Each row shows how many messages were deleted in the last run. On the right, messages older than 24 hours have been deleted from the meme channel; the pinned rules message stays in place.
How does it work?
- The bot checks each channel about every 10 minutes.
- Only messages older than the age you chose are deleted; newer messages are left alone.
- If "Keep pinned messages" is on, pinned messages are not deleted.
- At most 500 messages are deleted from a channel per run; the rest are deleted in the following runs.
Messages older than 14 days are deleted slowly
Discord doesn't allow bulk deletion of messages older than 14 days; they are deleted one by one. So each run the bot deletes at most 30 messages of that age from a channel. When you first add a channel full of old messages, it may take a while to clean it completely.
Example settings
| Channel | Suggested age | Why |
|---|---|---|
| #bot-commands | 1 hour | Command tests go stale quickly; the channel always stays empty and readable. |
| #caps-and-memes | 24 hours | Daily posts stay visible for a day, then make room the next day. |
| #media | 7 days | Shared images can be found for a week. |
| #listings | 30 days | Old listings disappear on their own after a month. |
Setup
The system is free and on by default; you only need to choose the channels to clean.
Step 1
On the dashboard, pick your server on the My Servers page.
Step 2
Open the Auto-Cleaned Channel card.
Step 3
Choose the channel and the Delete messages older than age.
Step 4
Click Add / Update Channel. The channel is added to the Auto-cleaned channels list.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Channel | — | The text channel to clean. Up to 10 channels per server. |
| Delete messages older than | 24 hours | Options: 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 3 days, 7 days, 30 days. |
| Keep pinned messages | On | If you turn it off, pinned messages are also deleted once they reach the age. |
The list shows each channel's age, the number of messages deleted in the last run and any error. Edit loads the settings back into the form; saving the same channel again updates its settings. Pause stops cleaning that channel, Remove takes the channel off the list.
Bot permissions
The bot needs the View Channels, Read Message History and Manage Messages permissions in that channel. If one is missing, no messages are deleted and the list shows the warning "the bot lacks Manage Messages / Read Message History permission".
Deleted messages don't come back
If you keep important information (rules, announcements) in a cleaned channel, pin it and leave the "Keep pinned messages" option on.
Frequently asked questions
Does the bot post anything in the channel after cleaning?
No. Cleaning is completely silent; no notice or summary is posted in the channel. You can see how many messages were deleted in the last run in the list on the dashboard.
Does cleaning start right away?
It starts at the first check after you add the channel; this may take a few minutes. After that, each channel is checked about every 10 minutes.
What happens if I turn the system off?
While the card is off, no channels are cleaned. Your channel list isn't deleted; when you turn the system back on, cleaning continues where it left off.
Can I choose a shorter age?
The shortest option on the dashboard is 1 hour and the longest is 30 days.
Can I add more than 10 channels?
No. Up to 10 channels can be added per server. Remove a channel you don't use from the list to make room.
The list says "channel not found"
The channel was deleted or the bot can no longer see it. Remove the channel from the list or make sure the bot can see it.
