The suggestion system collects members' ideas for the server in one channel. Each suggestion is posted as a numbered card, members vote on it, and staff write their decision and reason on the card.

In the window above, Alex sends the suggestion "Weekly movie night" with /suggest and it gets number #17. The card updates with the votes; when the suggestion is approved, Alex gets the decision and the reason by DM.

A suggestion step by step

Commands

/suggest

Opens the suggestion screen. It does the same as the Send Suggestion button on the panel; replies are only visible to you.

A suggestion title can be 3–100 characters and the details 10–1500 characters. If no categories are set and anonymous suggestions are off, the form opens directly.

Statuses

Going back is controlled

To reopen voting on an Approved or Denied suggestion, you move it to Under review; you can't go straight back to Pending from those two. A suggestion marked Duplicate can be moved straight back to Pending.

Anonymous suggestions

The author of an anonymous suggestion isn't shown on the card or on the Suggestions page in the dashboard. The real author is only written to the Staff Log Channel; pick a channel only staff can see.

Setup

Step 1

In the dashboard, pick your server on the My Servers page.

Open the Suggestion System card.

Step 3

Choose the Suggestion Channel and the Staff Log Channel, and set the Staff Roles.

Step 4

Edit the categories and set the toggles the way you want.

Step 5

Click Save, then send the Suggestion Box message with Send Panel to Channel.

Managing from the dashboard

The Management Page button on the card opens the server's Suggestions page. Here you search suggestions by title, content or number, filter by status and sort by most votes. You can make decisions or delete a suggestion; deleting a suggestion also deletes its card in Discord, while the discussion thread isn't deleted but locked. The top of the page shows the total, pending, approval rate and this week's suggestion count.

Bot permissions

The bot must be able to send messages in the suggestion channel, and create threads if discussion threads are on. If the card can't be sent, the suggestion isn't saved and the member is told to check permissions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change my vote?

Yes. Click the other button to change your vote, or click the same button again to take it back. Voting closes on suggestions that have been decided.

Who can make decisions?

Members with Manage Server and anyone with one of the Staff Roles set in the dashboard. If other members click the Manage button, they get "Only suggestion staff can do this."

Why can't I send a new suggestion right away?

The server has a cooldown. It's 5 minutes by default; the bot tells you when you can send again.

If a category is deleted, do old suggestions break?

No. Each suggestion is stored with the category it had when it was sent; the card stays the same.

I get "The suggestion system is not set up yet"

No Suggestion Channel is selected. Choose the channel in the dashboard and save.

Choose the channel, edit your categories and send the panel. Your members can start sending suggestions with /suggest right away.
