AFK & Reminders does two jobs: with /afk you let people know you are away, the bot leaves a short note for anyone who mentions you, and when you come back you see who was looking for you. With /reminder you set timed or scheduled reminders for yourself.
The window above runs the whole system from start to finish: Alex goes AFK, Mia mentions him, the bot leaves a note, and Alex gets a summary when he returns. Below you can follow the same flow step by step with the bot's real messages.
AFK step by step
Reminders step by step
Commands
/afk [sebep]
Sets you as AFK. The reason can be up to 200 characters; running it again updates the reason.
/reminder set
Time and message (up to 500 characters). Add dm to get it by direct message.
/reminder list
Shows your pending reminders with their numbers.
/reminder delete
Deletes the reminder with the number you give.
Add a reason
A short reason ("having dinner, back in an hour") lets the person who mentions you know how long they will have to wait.
How do I write the time?
| You type | Meaning |
|---|---|
30m | In 30 minutes |
2h | In 2 hours |
1d 4h | In 1 day 4 hours |
1 hour 15 minutes | Long form works too |
20:30 | Today at 20:30 (tomorrow at 20:30 if it has passed) |
tomorrow 09:00 | Tomorrow at 09:00 |
Time zone
Clock times like 20:30 and tomorrow 09:00 use Turkey time (UTC+3). Durations like 30m work the same everywhere. The shortest time is 1 minute, the longest 366 days.
For admins
The system is free and on by default; no setup needed. If you want to change the settings:
Step 1
On the dashboard, pick your server on the My Servers page.
Step 2
Open the AFK & Reminders card.
Step 3
Change the settings and click Save.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| AFK | On | If you turn it off, /afk can't be used; reminders keep working. |
| Nickname prefix | [AFK] | Added to the start of the AFK member's name. Leave it empty to keep names unchanged. |
| Reminders | On | If you turn it off, no new reminders can be set; existing reminders are still delivered. |
| Reminders per member | 10 | The maximum number of pending reminders a member can have at once (1–25). |
If the nickname doesn't change
If the bot's role is below the member's highest role, or the member is the server owner, Discord doesn't allow the name to be changed. AFK still works; only the name stays the same.
Frequently asked questions
Can everyone see that I'm AFK?
Only you see the /afk reply. Others won't notice anything until they mention you; by default [AFK] is added to the start of your nickname, and that's it.
Does the note notify the person who mentioned me?
No. The bot posts the note in the channel but pings no one. In the same channel, a note is posted at most once per minute for the same person.
How do I leave AFK mode?
Just send any message on the server. Messages in the first 10 seconds after typing /afk don't count, so you don't leave by accident right away.
Where does my reminder arrive?
In the channel where you set it, with a mention. If you turn on the dm option, it arrives as a direct message. If the channel was deleted or the bot can't post there, the reminder is sent by direct message instead.
Is my reminder lost if the bot is offline?
No. When the bot starts up it sends overdue reminders; if one is more than 5 minutes late, the message also says how late it is.
I get the "I couldn't understand that time" error
Write the time in one of the formats from the table (30m, 2h, tomorrow 09:00). The shortest time is 1 minute, the longest 366 days.
Try it on your server
Type /afk and ask a friend to mention you. Go to the dashboard for settings.
