The confession system lets members leave messages in a channel without showing their names. A member clicks the button on the panel and writes their confession; the bot posts the text under its own name with the heading "An Anonymous Confession".
In the window above you see the confession panel in the channel, an anonymous confession that arrives at night and the members' reactions. The sender gets the confirmation "Your confession was published!", visible only to them; Mia wonders who wrote it.
The panel in the channel
You send this message to the confession channel from the dashboard. As long as it stays in the channel, anyone can use the Confess button.
How does it work?
Step 1
A member clicks the Confess button and writes their confession in the Anonymous Confession form that opens.
Step 2
The bot posts the confession to the Channel Where Confessions Are Posted as a card titled "An Anonymous Confession". The card doesn't include the member's name, mention or avatar.
Step 3
The member who sent it gets a confirmation only they can see.
Step 4
If a log channel is set, the same confession is also posted there as an Identified Confession, together with the sender's name, avatar and user ID.
The card posted in the channel only contains the heading "An Anonymous Confession", the confession text in quotes and the time it was sent. Members can add reactions to it like any other message.
How anonymous is it?
Other members can't see who wrote a confession. However, server admins and anyone who can see the log channel can see the identity. Telling your members this openly keeps their trust.
Setup
Step 1
On the dashboard, pick your server on the My Servers page.
Step 2
Open the Confession System card.
Step 3
Choose the Channel Where Confessions Are Posted and the Real Identity Log Channel.
Step 4
Click Save, then send the confession panel with Send Panel to Channel.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Channel Where Confessions Are Posted | Empty | The channel the anonymous confessions and the confession panel are sent to. If it isn't set, the button replies that the system "isn't fully set up yet". |
| Real Identity Log Channel | Empty | Records the real author of every confession for moderation. If you leave it empty, the author isn't written to any channel. |
Don't leave the log channel empty
The bot doesn't filter confessions for content and doesn't limit how often they can be sent. To find out who wrote a confession that breaks the rules, be sure to set the log channel and open it only to staff.
Channel layout
You can turn off posting for members in the confession channel and only allow reactions. That way the channel contains only the panel and the anonymous confessions. Make sure the bot has the Send Messages and Embed Links permissions in that channel.
If you want to collect community ideas anonymously, also look at the anonymous suggestion option of the Suggestions system; there suggestions are voted on and staff decide.
Frequently asked questions
Can admins see who wrote a confession?
If a log channel is set, yes; the real author of the confession is written only to that channel. If no log channel is set, the bot doesn't write the author anywhere.
Can I delete my confession later?
The bot has no button to take back a confession. Only staff with the permission to manage messages can delete the message in the channel.
What happens if I send the confession panel a second time?
A new panel message is posted in the channel. The old panel isn't deleted and both buttons work; you can delete the extra one manually.
What happens if I mention others in a confession?
The text is shown as is inside the confession card. For content that breaks the rules, the sender can be found through the log channel.
How many confessions can a member send?
The bot sets no limit; each submission is posted as a separate confession. If there is abuse, you can find the sender through the log channel.
I get the reply "The publishing channel isn't set up!"
The Channel Where Confessions Are Posted isn't set. Choose the channel on the dashboard and save. If a channel is set and you get "Confession channel not found.", the channel may have been deleted; choose a new one.
Open a confession channel
Choose two channels, send the panel and try the first confession yourself to see how it looks.
