The Level System measures members' activity on your server with XP. Members earn XP by sending messages and talking in voice channels, and level up once they have enough XP. If you like, you can tie role rewards to certain levels; members see their own card with /profile.

In the window above you see Alex's profile card and the moment he levels up in chat: the bot sends the congratulation message with a card image, gives the role tied to level 15 and adds Shop and Inventory buttons under the message.

Leveling step by step

How is XP earned?

Message XP

Each message gives a random amount of XP between the minimum and maximum (15–25 by default). The same member gets no more XP until the cooldown is over (60 seconds by default).

Voice XP

A fixed amount of XP is given for every full minute in a voice channel (10 per minute by default). Members who are self-muted or server-muted, and members who are alone in the channel apart from bots, get no XP.

Quest XP

A member who completes an economy quest gets XP equal to the quest's gold reward times the Quest XP Multiplier (1 by default). Quest XP doesn't count toward the weekly leaderboard.

Each level needs a bit more XP than the one before. The XP needed for the next level is calculated with this formula: 5 × level² + 50 × level + 100.

LevelXP needed for that levelTotal XP
1155155
2220375
54751,525

XP is per server

XP and levels are kept separately on each server. XP you earn on one server doesn't affect your level on another.

Card design and XP management

On the level-up card you can edit colors and texts and drag them into position. Texts can use variables such as {username}, {level}, {xp}, {rank} and {server}. For the profile card, you pick one of four ready-made layouts and set its colors. In the XP Management section on the same page, you can add XP to a member by their Discord ID, or reset the XP and level of everyone on the server with Reset All Levels.

Set up reward roles in tiers

For example, tie a role each to levels 5, 15 and 30. If "Remove previous level roles" is on, the lower role is taken back when a member gets the new one, so their role list doesn't get crowded.

If roles aren't given

The bot needs the "Manage Roles" permission, and its role must sit above the roles it gives. Roles above the bot's role, or roles that belong to an integration, are skipped.

Resetting can't be undone

Reset All Levels sets the XP and level of every member on the server to 0. There is no way back.

Frequently asked questions

Can people level up fast by spamming?

No. However many messages a member sends during the cooldown, only the first one earns XP. The default cooldown is 60 seconds.

Do I get XP if I sit alone in voice?

No. There must be at least one other person in the channel besides bots. You also get no voice XP if you muted yourself or the server muted you.

Can I turn off the level-up message?

With the Notification Channel setting you choose where the message goes; if empty, it goes to the channel where the XP was earned. There is no dashboard setting that turns the level-up message off completely.

Does adding XP on the dashboard give roles right away?

Level roles are synced when the member sends their next XP-earning message. This check runs at most once every 2 minutes.

Are weekly XP and total XP different?

Yes. Total XP never resets and determines your level. Weekly XP resets every week and is used in the "This week" table in /leaderboard.

It says "Level system is not active!"

The system is off or paused on this server. Open the Level System card on the dashboard and enable it; /profile works after that.

Set up leveling

Set your XP settings and level roles on the dashboard, then check your card with /profile.
